Guilford Technical Community College offers a comprehensive benefits package to include retirement benefits, medical benefits, optional insurance plans and paid leave and holidays, the benefit information presented below is a summary of college provided benefits.  The information contained herewithin is not comprehensive, but is intended to summarize benefits available to regular full-time and regular part-time employees of GTCC. Benefits may change without notice.

Your Retirement


All regular and time-limited employees who work at least 30 hours per week are required to join the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System of North Carolina. Employees and the College share the cost of providing for retirement benefits. Members of the Retirement System are vested after five years of creditable service.  Optional retirement plans are offered to those who wish to supplement their retirement income.

Health Insurance

Group health insurance is available to all employees in regular and time-limited positions. The College pays a portion of the coverage cost for eligible full-time employees who work at least 30 hours per week. Additional coverage may be purchased for dependents at the group rate. Part-time employees in regular positions may enroll in the group plan, but must pay the total cost for coverage. Retirees are also covered by the plan.

Flexible Spending Account

Optional insurance plans are provided to supplement employee’s medical coverage. Cancer, hospital intensive care protection, hospital confinement and accident/sickness/disability policies may be purchased on a pre-tax basis. Health and Dependent Care reimbursement accounts may also be provided through the Flexible Benefits Plan. The plans reimburse the employee for daycare expenses incurred for a dependent child, disabled spouse, or dependent parent and for eligible medical expenses that are not covered by the employee’s medical or dental insurance (i.e., dental services, medications, co-pay amounts, deductibles, lab exams/tests, etc.). A group dental plan is available to all full-time regular and time-limited employees. Currently the college pays the monthly premium for each employee; however, the employee must pay for dependent coverage. The plan pays 50% to 100% of covered services, with some procedures subject to a $50 deductible. The plan covers preventive and diagnostic services, basic and major procedures for adults and children; however, it does not cover orthodontics.


A choice of vision plans is available: a comprehensive plan to include one examination per year and a discounted price for materials (lenses, frames, etc.) or a plan to cover materials only.
